Bio

Jim Holleran grew up in an Irish Catholic family of six children in Morristown, N.Y. His father taught phys ed for 32 years and coached football, basketball and baseball at Morristown Central School while his mother was a labor nurse for 47 years at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. Jim’s backyard was a panorama of the St. Lawrence River, where Brockville, Ontario, was the backdrop on the opposite shore, and sunsets and ships dominated the mile-wide expanse of oceangoing water.

He worked for four newspapers over 30 years in Ohio and New York, then retired in 2020 after 20 years as a teacher and central registrar for the Rochester City School District.

He and wife, Mary, have three grown children — Kathleen, Liam and Claire — and reside in Penfield in suburban Rochester.
